The Alaska-based company The Safety Specialists (TSS) continually innovates with an eye on business growth and its mission to promote safety. Having started as a locally-focused drug screening company two decades ago, TSS is now a top safety services provider with customers nationwide.
To supplement the hands-on work TSS does to ensure safe workplaces, the company has developed a robust educational program that includes CPR and First Aid classes, new-employee training, professional development workshops, and U.S. Department of Transportation-mandated certification trainings. The instruction has become so popular that TSS needed a way to deliver it more widely and quickly.
When TSS approached Media Salad about a year ago, looking for ways to make their courses more accessible to clients, we introduced them to an easy-to-use and affordable online learning management system that could integrate seamlessly with the website Media Salad previously developed for the company. This is a tool for creating sharp-looking and interactive online courses, and it is flexible enough to allow lessons from different courses to be combined for the creation of still more new courses. Another plus: participants can work at their own pace.
Through close collaboration with TSS’ safety specialists, Media Salad translated their professional expertise into online course content — which significantly differs from standard slideshow presentations. The Media Salad team contributed research and writing; added videos, graphics, role-playing scenarios and quizzes; and configured software tools to allow participants to receive professional certificates of completion with TSS officials’ approval. These courses are available for purchase through the TSS website using e-commerce — which means the company’s instructors now can be in far many more places at once, and the company can increase its client base and revenues.
TSS’ long-scheduled March 2020 launch into online learning already has taken on a new sense of urgency and importance. With the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic and public health recommendations for social distancing and stay-at-home work, online training is even more necessary. TSS is proud to remain true to its mission of helping workplaces, communities and individuals be safe by limiting direct contact.
Media Salad is proud to join TSS in this project that advances the field of safety training — and we invite you to contact us to start building your online courses, too.
Here’s a look at TSS’s educational offerings:
Online Courses
TSS’ is launching its new Online Learning Program with three courses and will expand its online learning offerings in coming months. These comprehensive and easy-to-use online courses fulfill a variety of needs, including new employee trainings and DOT-compliant certification trainings for supervisors. The coursework is applicable across many industries.
Blended learning
The Blended Learning option is a flexible alternative to TSS’s traditional, top-rated CPR & First Aid course. Participants can take the classroom portion of the course online from anywhere and at any time. Upon completion, they can schedule the in-person portion of the training at their convenience with an experienced TSS instructor. Like the traditional format, the Blended Learning course trains students in the latest, most reliable techniques and provides a two-year certification.
Scheduled Webinars
TSS has an expansive library of webinar offerings. Businesses can review the list on the company’s website and contact TSS to schedule a webinar for employees.
With Media Salad’s help, TSS is promoting its initiatives through a robust communications strategy including blog posts, email blasts and social media while remaining sensitive to current community and public health priorities.
